## Biography

Michael Reed (also credited as Mike Reed) was a British cinematographer. He began his career in the early 1950s in the camera department at Hammer Films, working as a clapper loader and focus puller before becoming director of photography on films including *The Ugly Duckling* (1959) and several Hammer horror productions such as *The Gorgon* (1964), *Dracula: Prince of Darkness* (1966) and *Rasputin: The Mad Monk* (1966).

He served as second-unit director of photography on the James Bond films *Goldfinger* (1964), *Thunderball* (1965) and *You Only Live Twice* (1967). Reed was director of photography on *On Her Majesty's Secret Service* (1969). His other credits include *Shout at the Devil* (1976), *The Passage* (1979) and television series such as *The Saint*, *The New Avengers* and *Philip Marlowe, Private Eye*.

Reed was a member of the British Society of Cinematographers. He died on 15 December 2022.
