## Biography

Michael Schaefer is a German film producer. He began his career in the late 1990s and worked as a studio executive at Summit Entertainment before joining Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions as president in 2012.

Schaefer produced *The Martian* (2015), directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He also produced *Alien: Covenant* (2017), *Murder on the Orient Express* (2017) and *Exodus: Gods and Kings* (2014). In 2016 he became president of the motion picture group at New Regency Productions.
