Michael Short is a Canadian writer and producer. He wrote for the sketch comedy series *SCTV Network* (1981–1983) and its follow-up *SCTV Channel* (1983–1984), winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program.

Short created the series *Maniac Mansion* (1990–1993) and has written for other programmes including *Blue Collar TV* and *The Jane Show*. He contributed as a writer and co-executive producer on *Schitt's Creek* (2015–2020), which earned him a further Primetime Emmy as part of the production team. He has also written for films such as *Speed Zone* (1989) and *Jiminy Glick in Lalawood* (2005), and frequently collaborates with his brother Martin Short.
