## Biography

Michael Vittes was an American television producer, editor and director. He worked as a producer and supervising producer on *Hill Street Blues* (1981) during its later seasons, and held producer, co-executive producer and supervising producer roles on *Northern Exposure* (1990).

Vittes also produced episodes of *Lou Grant* (1977) and other series including *A Peaceable Kingdom* (1989) and *Players* (1997). He directed six episodes of *Northern Exposure* and one of *Beverly Hills Buntz* (1987). He received three Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, for *Hill Street Blues* and *Northern Exposure*.

Born in New York City on 13 December 1935, Vittes died in Los Angeles on 18 June 2026.
