## Biography

Michael Wilcox is a British playwright and television writer. He abandoned teaching in 1974 to write full time and served as resident playwright at the Dovecot Arts Centre in Stockton-on-Tees in 1977 and at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh in 1980.

His stage plays include *Rents* (1979), *Accounts* (1981), *Lent* (1983) and *Massage* (1986). For television he wrote the screenplay for the *Inspector Morse* episode 'Last Bus to Woodstock' (1988) as well as episodes of *Crown Court*, *Cluedo* and *Doctor Finlay*, and the films *Accounts* (1983) and *Lent* (1985). He has edited five volumes of *Gay Plays* for Methuen and received awards including the London Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising New Playwright in 1983.
