## Biography

Michal Kožuch was a Slovak character actor. Born on 4 November 1921 in Nagybánhegyes in the Kingdom of Hungary (now Hungary), he became a professional actor after the Second World War. He was a founding member of the Regional Theatre in Nitra, where he performed from 1949 until his death, appearing in more than one hundred productions, often in comic and folk roles.

On screen he played serious and dramatic parts. He is known for the role of Lazar, Kozlík's rival, in František Vláčil's *Marketa Lazarová* (1967) and for Blasius in *The Valley of the Bees* (1968). Other film credits include *Smrt si říká Engelchen* (1963), *322* (1969) and *Rozsudek* (1970). He died on 31 May 1975 in Nitra, then in Czechoslovakia.
