## Biography

Michel Legrand was a French composer, arranger, conductor, jazz pianist and singer. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from the age of 11, graduating with top honours as a composer and pianist. He first gained international attention with his 1954 album *I Love Paris*.

Legrand composed scores for more than 200 films and television productions. He is known for his work on *The Umbrellas of Cherbourg* (1964), *The Young Girls of Rochefort* (1967), *The Thomas Crown Affair* (1968), *Summer of '42* (1971) and *Yentl* (1983). He received three Academy Awards and five Grammy Awards. He also composed the music for *Atlantic City* (1980).
