## Biography

Mickey Shaughnessy (born Joseph C. Shaughnessy) was an American actor and comedian. He was born on 5 August 1920 in New York City and died on 23 July 1985 in Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

Shaughnessy began in show business as a singer at resorts before becoming a comedian. He served in the US Army during the Second World War and appeared in the revue Stars and Gripes. His screen debut came in The Marrying Kind (1952). He appeared in more than 40 films, often as tough or comic supporting characters.

His credits include Cpl. Leva in From Here to Eternity (1953), Hunk Houghton in Jailhouse Rock (1957), Maxie Stultz in Designing Woman (1957) and roles in North to Alaska (1960), Pocketful of Miracles (1961) and How the West Was Won (1962). He also worked in television and maintained a nightclub act.
