## Biography

Mike Post (born Leland Michael Postil, 29 September 1944) is an American composer of television and film music. Born in Berkeley, California, he began as a session musician and arranger, winning a Grammy Award at age 23 for his work on Mason Williams' "Classical Gas". At 24 he became musical director of *The Andy Williams Show*.

His long partnership with arranger Pete Carpenter produced the theme for *The Rockford Files* (1974). Post has composed music or themes for many series, including *Columbo* (1971), *Hill Street Blues* (1981), *Quantum Leap* (1989), *Law & Order* (1990) and its spin-offs, *Magnum, P.I.*, *The A-Team* and *NYPD Blue*. He has received five Grammy Awards and one Primetime Emmy Award for his television work.
