## Biography

Mikhail Nazvanov was a Soviet stage and film actor. Born in Moscow in 1914, he studied acting at the Drama Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre after graduating from a music college.

He made his film debut in *Wait for Me* (1943). Sergei Eisenstein cast him as Prince Andrei Kurbsky in *Ivan the Terrible, Part I* (1944) and its sequel *Ivan the Terrible, Part II: The Boyars' Plot* (1958). Other notable screen roles include appearances in films by directors such as Grigori Aleksandrov, Vsevolod Pudovkin, Mikhail Romm and Grigori Kozintsev, including Claudius in *Hamlet* (1964). He also directed *The Mistress of the Inn* (1956).

Nazvanov was named Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1949 and received three Stalin Prizes.
