## Biography

Milan Roder (1878–1956) was a Croatian-American composer, orchestrator and music director who worked extensively in Hollywood during the 1930s. Born in Osijek, he immigrated to the United States in 1914 and became a naturalised citizen in 1920.

He contributed music to numerous films, including *A Farewell to Arms* (1932), *The Sign of the Cross* (1932), *Cleopatra* (1934), *The Lives of a Bengal Lancer* (1935) and *Death Takes a Holiday* (1934). He received an Academy Award nomination for his work on *Souls at Sea* (1937). Earlier in his career he served as musical director and orchestrator on several Broadway productions.

Roder died in Los Angeles in January 1956.
