## Biography

Milton Gaúcho, also credited as Milton Gaucho, was a Brazilian actor born Milton Magalhães on 7 October 1916 in Salvador, Bahia. He began his career in radio in 1936 at Rádio Clube da Bahia and worked at stations including Rádio Comercial da Bahia, Rádio Transmissora do Rio de Janeiro, Rádio Mayrink Veiga and Rádio Nacional de Porto Alegre, performing in radionovelas as well as theatre, opera and circus productions.

His film debut came in *Redenção* (1959), the first feature-length film made in Salvador. He appeared in numerous Bahian productions, including *Bahia de Todos os Santos* (1960), *A Grande Feira* (1961), *Tocaia no Asfalto* (1962) as Colonel Pinto Borges, *Barravento* (1962) and *O Pagador de Promessas* (1962, also known as *The Given Word*) as a police officer. He founded the Grupo Bahiano de Cinema and continued working into the 2000s, with later credits including *3 Histórias da Bahia* (2001). Gaúcho died on 6 January 2005 in Salvador.
