## Biography

Milton Merlin was an American writer and producer for film, radio and television. Born Milton Stanley Harris on 12 March 1905, he began his career in the 1930s at Paramount Pictures and later MGM, contributing to films including *The Kid from Texas* (1939) and *Burn 'Em Up O'Connor* (1939). He later moved into radio and early television.

In the 1950s Merlin was blacklisted after refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. He resumed credited work as story supervisor and associate producer on *The Millionaire* (1955–1960) and wrote for series including *Halls of Ivy*, for which he and his wife Barbara received a Peabody Award. In the 1960s the couple contributed episodes to *Bonanza*, *The Fugitive* (1964) and *I Spy*.

Merlin died on 29 October 1996 in Los Angeles.
