## Biography

Mitch Lindemann was an American screenwriter and producer. He began writing for the Federal Theater Project in the 1930s and later contributed to radio and television versions of *The Life of Riley*. In the mid-1940s he moved into screenwriting, working as a partner to John Howard Lawson at the Hecht-Lancaster company.

His career was affected by the Hollywood blacklist after his name appeared in House Un-American Activities Committee proceedings in 1948. He often worked through fronts or under pseudonyms. Credited work includes the screenplay for *The Careless Years* (1957) and, with Ben Maddow, the screenplay for *The Way West* (1967); he also served as associate producer on *Cat Ballou* (1965) and *The Way West*.

Later credits include an episode of *The Name of the Game* (1969) and, as Mitchell Lindemann, the story and teleplay for the 1975 *The Rockford Files* episode 'Roundabout'. Lindemann died in 1977.
