Mohammad Reza Darvishi is an Iranian composer, musician and researcher. Born on 17 October 1955 in Shiraz, he studied composition at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, graduating in 1978.

He has composed scores for numerous Iranian and international films, including *Blackboards* (2000), *The Day I Became a Woman* (2000), *Kandahar* (2001), the Iran segment of *September 11* (2002) and *Osama* (2003). His work also extends to theatre music and scholarly research; he authored the multi-volume *Encyclopedia of the Musical Instruments of Iran*, which received the Klaus P. Wachsmann Prize from the Society for Ethnomusicology in 2002.
