## Biography

Mohammed Afifi, also credited as Mohammed Said Afifi or Mohamed Saïd Afifi, was a Moroccan actor. He appeared in international films including as the Hangman in *The Mummy* (1999) and as Mohammed in *The Sheltering Sky* (1990).

Afifi had a substantial career in Moroccan theatre. He co-founded the National Youth Troupe (later known as Al Mamoura) in the 1960s, directed and performed in plays including *Hamlet* and *Othello*, and held teaching and directing positions at theatre institutions in Casablanca and El-Jadida. He died in Rabat in 2009.
