## Biography

Molly Lamont (1910–2001) was a South African-British actress. Born Margorie Edith Lamont in Boksburg, Transvaal, she won a beauty contest in her teens and moved to England, where she received a film test from British International Pictures. She began appearing in British films in 1930, initially in small and often uncredited roles.

Her parts grew larger by the mid-1930s. She later moved to Hollywood and secured a contract with RKO. Among her credits were the role of Barbara Vance in *The Awful Truth* (1937), Mary Livingstone in *Mary of Scotland* (1936), and supporting parts in *The Suspect* (1945) and *Mr. Skeffington* (1944). She retired from acting in 1951 after more than fifty films.

In 1938 she married aviation pioneer Edward Bellande; the couple remained together until his death in 1976. She later took part in local theatre companies.
