## Biography

Monique Proulx is a Quebec writer and screenwriter. Born in Quebec City on 17 January 1952, she studied literature and theatre at Université Laval before working as a theatre animator, French teacher and information officer at Université du Québec. She began writing full time in 1980 and moved to Montreal in 1984.

She has published novels and short stories, several of which have been adapted for the screen. Her screenwriting credits include the 1986 film *The Decline of the American Empire* (as collaborating writer) and *Le Sexe des étoiles* (1993), which she adapted from her own novel.
