## Biography

Monty Norman (né Noserovitch) was a British composer, songwriter and singer. Born in Stepney, London, on 4 April 1928, he died on 11 July 2022.

He contributed songs and scores to West End musicals in the 1950s and 1960s, including adaptations such as *Irma La Douce* and *Expresso Bongo*. His film work included the score for *The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll* (1960). He is best known for composing the "James Bond Theme", first heard in *Dr. No* (1962).

Norman won an Ivor Novello Award and an Olivier Award, and was nominated for a Tony Award. He successfully sued *The Sunday Times* for libel in 2001 over claims that John Barry had composed the Bond theme.
