## Biography

Morando Morandini (1924–2015) was an Italian film critic, journalist, author and occasional actor. Born in Milan, he began his career as a journalist in 1947 and wrote about cinema, television and theatre for newspapers including *L'Ordine*, *La Notte* and, from 1965 to 1998, *Il Giorno*. In 1958 he founded the specialist magazine *Schermi*.

He is best known for the annual film dictionary *Il Morandini*, published by Zanichelli from 1998 and containing around 26,000 of his reviews. He also co-authored a multi-volume *Storia del cinema* and directed the Bellaria film festival from 1984 to 1997, returning in 2002. In 1964 he appeared as Cesare, Fabrizio's teacher, in Bernardo Bertolucci's *Before the Revolution*. He received the Flaiano Prize for film criticism in 1995.
