## Biography

Morten Arnfred (2 August 1945 – 2 September 2025) was a Danish film director and screenwriter. He began working in film as a photographer and assistant in the early 1970s before directing his first feature in 1976. His early youth films *Mig og Charly* (1978) and *Johnny Larsen* (1979) were noted for their social realism.

Arnfred directed several features that screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, including *Der er et yndigt land* (1983) and *The Russian Singer* (1993). He co-directed the miniseries *The Kingdom* (1994–1997) with Lars von Trier and later worked extensively in television, directing episodes of *The Killing* (2007) and four episodes of *The Bridge* (2013). He was also involved in establishing the European Film College.
