Murray Smith (14 June 1940 – 28 December 2003) was a British film and television writer and producer. He wrote the screenplay for the 1975 episode 'Faces' of the ITV series *The Sweeney*.

Smith created and wrote the interconnected ITV crime series *The XYY Man* (1976–1977), *Strangers* (1978–1982) and *Bulman* (1985–1987). He contributed scripts to other series including *Minder* (1979), *Hammer House of Horror* (1980), *Dempsey and Makepeace* (1985–1986) and *Lovejoy* (1986). He also wrote five screenplays for director Pete Walker and two novels.
