## Biography

Nancy Gates (born Nancy Jane Gates) was an American film and television actress. Born in Dallas, Texas, on 1 February 1926, she signed a contract with RKO Studios at the age of 15 and made her screen debut in 1942.

She appeared in numerous B-movies, often westerns, and had supporting roles in *Suddenly* (1954) and *Some Came Running* (1958), both starring Frank Sinatra. Other notable film credits include *Comanche Station* (1960). She also made more than fifty television appearances, including episodes of *Perry Mason*, *Bonanza* and *Gunsmoke*.

Gates retired from acting in 1969. She was married to Hollywood attorney J. William Hayes from 1948 until his death in 1992; they had four children.
