## Biography

Nandjiwarra Amagula was an Australian actor and Aboriginal leader from Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory. He played the role of Charlie in Peter Weir’s film *The Last Wave* (1977), also serving as a cultural consultant during production.

Amagula was awarded an MBE in 1970 for community work. He was chairman of the Angurugu Council on Groote Eylandt and became the second Aboriginal magistrate appointed in the Northern Territory in 1974. He was also a bark painter whose works are held in Australian public collections. He died in 1989.
