## Biography

Naoko Otani is a Japanese actress. She made her screen debut in the 1968 film *The Human Bullet* while still a high school student. She gained early popularity for her lead role in the NHK Asadora series *Nobuko to Obāchan* (1969–70).

Her film credits include *Zigeunerweisen* (1980), *Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters* (1985) as Mother, and *The Land of Hope* (2012) as Chieko Ono. She has also appeared in several taiga dramas on Japanese television, including *Katsu Kaishū* (1974) and *Gunshi Kanbei* (2014). Otani is married to actor Kôji Shimizu.
