## Biography

Nat Perrin was an American comedy screenwriter, producer and director. Born in the Bronx, he trained as a lawyer but never practised law. After working in the Warner Bros. publicity department from 1930, he entered screenwriting through a forged letter of introduction to Groucho Marx in 1931, which led to a job at Paramount and a long association with the Marx Brothers.

Perrin contributed additional dialogue to *Duck Soup* (1933) and worked on other Marx Brothers projects including *Monkey Business* (1931) and the story for *The Big Store* (1941). He co-wrote the radio series *Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel* with Arthur Sheekman. Later credits include the screenplay for *Hellzapoppin'* (1941), *Song of the Thin Man* (1947) and *Frankie and Johnny* (1966). He produced early television series such as *The Red Skelton Show* and *Death Valley Days*, and served as producer and head writer on *The Addams Family* (1964–1966). In 1977 he acted as temporary conservator for Groucho Marx.
