Neil Cuthbert is a writer of screenplays, television episodes and stage plays. He was born on 5 May 1951 in Montclair, New Jersey, and studied at Rutgers University, where he received a BA in English in 1973 and an MFA in playwriting in 1978.

He worked as literary manager at the Ensemble Studio Theater in New York in the early 1980s, during which time several of his plays were produced there.
