## Biography

Nellie Bly Baker (7 September 1893 – 12 October 1984) was an American actress who appeared in minor and supporting roles in silent films and early sound pictures. She worked initially as a stenographer and secretary at First National Pictures, where she was employed by Charles Chaplin, before being cast in his productions.

Baker played the slum nurse (uncredited) in Chaplin’s *The Kid* (1921) and a masseuse (uncredited) in *A Woman of Paris* (1923). Over the next decade she appeared in around a dozen further films for studios including First National, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Warner Brothers, among them *The Goldfish* (1924), *The Red Kimono* (1925) and *Breakfast at Sunrise* (1927). She is sometimes confused with the journalist Nellie Bly.
