Nels Bangerter is a documentary film editor and writer. He was born in 1978 in the United States and is based in Oakland, California. He holds degrees in English and electrical engineering from Rice University and an MFA in film production from the University of Southern California.

Bangerter is known for his work as writer and editor on *Dick Johnson Is Dead* (2020) and as editor on *Cameraperson* (2016) and *Apocalypse in the Tropics* (2025). Other credits include *Let the Fire Burn* (2013), *The Hottest August* (2019), *32 Sounds* (2022) and *Riotsville, U.S.A.* (2022). He has won four International Documentary Association Awards and two Cinema Eye Awards for editing, with additional Emmy and ACE Eddie nominations. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
