## Biography

Nicholas Mallett (6 May 1945 – 30 January 1997) was a British television director. Born in Norwich, Norfolk, he trained initially as a ballet dancer before an injury prompted a move into television. He joined the BBC in the early 1970s as an assistant floor manager on programmes such as *Warship* and advanced to production assistant by 1975, with credits including *Blake's 7*.

Mallett directed three *Doctor Who* serials between 1986 and 1989: *The Mysterious Planet* (part of *The Trial of a Time Lord*, starring Colin Baker), *Paradise Towers* and *The Curse of Fenric* (both starring Sylvester McCoy). He also directed episodes of *Crossroads*, *Children's Ward* and *The Bill*. He died in Wandsworth, London, aged 51.
