We value that intensity in *Cube*, though the ensemble sometimes overdoes it. In *Cube* (1998), being confined with other people becomes almost as troubling as the lethal rooms. Nicky Guadagni's Holloway belongs to an ensemble that has to keep distinct personalities visible while the audience works on the puzzle. Her intensity helps, but Vincenzo Natali's cast sometimes presses an argument harder than it needs to. We were unsettled by the need to trust people whose judgement looked doubtful, which gave the conversations a tension beyond the threat of the traps.
