## Biography

Niki Caro is a New Zealand film director and screenwriter. Born in Wellington, she graduated with a BFA from the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland and received a postgraduate diploma in film from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

Her breakthrough came with the 2002 feature *Whale Rider*, which received international acclaim and numerous festival awards. Subsequent films include *North Country* (2005), *McFarland, USA* (2015), *The Zookeeper's Wife* (2017) and *Mulan* (2020). Caro was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of her contributions to film.
