## Biography

Nikolay Aseev (also credited as N. Aseyev or Н. Асеев) was a Russian Soviet poet, translator and screenwriter. Born in 1889 in Lgov, Kursk Governorate, he began publishing poetry in 1909 and was associated with Futurist groups including Centrifuge alongside Boris Pasternak.

In the mid-1920s Aseev worked briefly in cinema. He wrote the initial script for *The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr. West in the Land of the Bolsheviks* (1924) and contributed intertitles to *Battleship Potemkin* (1925, with Nina Agadzhanova) and *Fedka's Truth* (1925). He later became a leading Soviet poet, a member of the LEF group and recipient of the Stalin Prize in 1941. He died in Moscow in 1963.
