## Biography

Nikos Papatakis was a Greek filmmaker born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He moved to Paris in 1939, where he worked as a film extra and later owned the nightclub La Rose Rouge. In 1957 he relocated to New York, where he became co-producer of John Cassavetes' *Shadows* (1959).

Papatakis directed *Les Abysses* (1963), *Oi Voskoi* (1967), *The Photograph* (1986) and *Walking a Tightrope* (1992). He was also active in the Front de Libération Nationale during the Algerian War and produced Jean Genet's short film *Un Chant d'Amour* (1950). He died in Paris in 2010.
