## Biography

Nina Agadzhanova (also credited as Nina Agadzhanova-Shutko or N. F. Agadzhanovoy-Shutko) was a Soviet screenwriter and film director. She wrote the original screenplay *The Year 1905*, commissioned in 1925 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the 1905 Revolution, from which Sergei Eisenstein's *Battleship Potemkin* (1925) was developed.

Agadzhanova began working as a screenwriter in 1924. Her other credits include the screenplay for *Deserter* (1933) and co-direction of *Two-Buldi-Two* (1930). Before entering film she had been active as a Bolshevik revolutionary from 1907, participating in the 1917 revolutions and undertaking underground work.
