## Biography

Nitin Sawhney is a British composer, musician and producer. Born in 1964 in Rochester, Kent, he studied piano, guitar and sitar as a child and later worked in comedy before focusing on music.

He has composed scores for numerous films and television series, including *The Namesake* (2006), *Midnight's Children* (2012), *Breathe* (2017) and *Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle* (2018). Sawhney is also known for creating new orchestral scores for silent films such as Alfred Hitchcock's *The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog* (1927) and Franz Osten's *A Throw of Dice* (1929), the latter premiered with the London Symphony Orchestra.

He received the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and was appointed CBE for services to music.
