## Biography

Norma Shearer was a Canadian-American actress. Born in Montreal, she began her career in silent films and became one of MGM's leading stars from the mid-1920s through the 1930s.

Shearer won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in *The Divorcee* (1930). She appeared in notable films including *Romeo and Juliet* (1936) as Juliet and *The Women* (1939) as Mary Haines. She was married to MGM producer Irving G. Thalberg from 1927 until his death in 1936.
