## Biography

Norman Burton (5 December 1923 – 29 November 2003) was an American actor. Born in New York City, he trained at the Actors Studio and began his career with stage work before making his film debut in a minor role in *Fright* (1956).

He appeared as the Hunt Leader in *Planet of the Apes* (1968) and as an army officer in *Escape from the Planet of the Apes* (1971). Burton played Felix Leiter in the James Bond film *Diamonds Are Forever* (1971) and Will Giddings in *The Towering Inferno* (1974). His other film credits include *Bloodsport* (1988). He also worked extensively in television.

Burton died in a car accident near the California–Arizona border while returning to his home in Mexico.
