## Biography

Norman Hollyn was an American film editor and music editor. Born in New York on 11 May 1952, he graduated from Stony Brook University with a degree in theatre arts. He began his career in the 1970s as an apprentice sound editor on *Lenny* (1974) and later worked as an assistant music editor on films including *Hair* (1979) and *Fame* (1980).

Hollyn served as music editor on *Sophie’s Choice* (1982) and *The Cotton Club* (1984). As a picture editor, his credits include *Heathers* (1989), *It’s Pat: The Movie* (1994), *Mad Dog Time* (1996), *Quicksilver Highway* (1997) and *Under Wraps* (1997), as well as episodes of *The Equalizer* and the miniseries *Wild Palms* (1993). He also edited *Shot* (2017).

From 1998 he taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he was the inaugural holder of the Michael Kahn Endowed Chair in Editing. Hollyn authored *The Film Editing Room Handbook* (first published 1986) and *The Lean Forward Moment* (2009). He died in Yokohama, Japan, on 17 March 2019.
