## Biography

Norman Lessing (1911–2001) was an American television writer, producer and playwright. He began writing for television in its early days in New York in the late 1940s and continued until 1979, contributing scripts to numerous series including *The Fugitive* (1963), for which he wrote teleplays and episodes in 1965–1966.

His credits also include *Hawaii Five-O* (1969), *Lost in Space* (1965), *The Streets of San Francisco* (1972), *Baretta* (1975) and *Cannon* (1971). He wrote the play *36*, performed widely in the United States, and co-authored the chess book *The World of Chess* (1974) with Anthony Saidy. Lessing was also a noted chess master, winning several senior titles in the 1960s.
