Norman Spinrad is an American science fiction author, essayist and critic. Born in New York City on 15 September 1940, he graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and City College of New York.

He wrote the teleplay for the *Star Trek* episode 'The Doomsday Machine' (1967), which received a Hugo Award nomination. He also contributed episodes to *Land of the Lost* and other series, and has been credited on feature films including *The Red Siren* and *Druids*.

Spinrad served twice as president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. His novels include *Bug Jack Barron* (1969) and *The Iron Dream* (1972); his fiction has been nominated for multiple Hugo and Nebula Awards and has won the Prix Apollo.
