Born in New York City to vaudeville performers Theodore and Lily (Wren) Westman, she attended the Professional Children's School. Her Broadway debut was in *Pigs* (1924) and her final Broadway role was in *Midgie Purvis* (1961). She won an Obie Award for playing Nell in the off-Broadway premiere of Samuel Beckett's *Endgame*. Westman made her screen debut in *Strange Justice* (1932) and appeared in many films during the 1930s, including *Little Women* (1933) as Mamie and *One Night of Love* (1934) as Muriel. Later credits included the television series *Going My Way* (1962–1963) as Mrs Featherstone. She was married to producer Robert Sparks from 1930 to 1937; their daughter, actress Kate Williamson, was born in 1931.
