## Biography

Oldřich Okáč was a Czech production designer and art director. He began his career as an assistant architect on historical films directed by Otakar Vávra in the 1950s, including *Jan Hus* (1954), *Jan Žižka* (1955) and *Proti všem* (1957). From the mid-1960s he worked as lead production designer on numerous feature films and television productions.

Okáč is best known for his work on *Marketa Lazarová* (1967), for which he received the Trilobit award in 1968, *The Ear* (1970), *The Little Mermaid* (1976) and *Shadows of a Hot Summer* (1978). He collaborated frequently with directors František Vláčil and Karel Kachyňa. He was born on 14 April 1925 in Starina u Staré Ľubovni and died on 13 February 1987 in Prague.
