Dick's Electric Dreams* (2017), and on the films *American Animals* (2018), *Judy* (2019), *Ticket to Paradise* (2022), *Ghost Stories* (2018) and *The Little Stranger* (2018).

Birkeland served as director of photography on the 2026 series *Dear England*. He is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers and has received BAFTA nominations for his work on *Utopia* and *National Treasure*, as well as British Independent Film Award nominations for *American Animals* and *Judy*.
