Born in New York City in 1896, she was the daughter of vaudeville entertainer George Fuller Golden. She began acting in the 1910s, appearing in early films such as *Tess of the Storm Country* (1914). In 1920 she married actor Harry Carey. She played Edith Trent in *Trader Horn* (1931) and made occasional appearances before retiring again after *Naughty Marietta* (1935). Following her husband's death in 1947, she resumed work as a character actress, notably as Mrs Jorgensen in *The Searchers* (1956) alongside her son Harry Carey Jr., and in films including *Gunfight at the O.K. Corral* (1957), *The Alamo* (1960) and *Two Rode Together* (1961). Her final screen role was in *Billy the Kid Versus Dracula* (1966).
