Born Fritz-Olof Thunberg in Västerås in 1925, he studied at Calle Flygare's drama school in Stockholm and at the Royal Dramatic Training Academy from 1950 to 1952. He began his career in provincial theatre and radio, notably presenting horror stories on the programme *Mannen i svart* in the 1950s. Thunberg appeared in supporting roles in numerous films and television productions. He played the church organist Fredrik Blom in Ingmar Bergman's *Winter Light* (1963). He was also known for voice work, including the title character in the *Bamse* films and recordings, Agaton Sax, and Shere Khan in the Swedish dub of *The Jungle Book* (1967). He died in 2020.
