## Biography

Omar Blondin Diop, also credited as Omar Diop, was a Senegalese actor, philosopher and political activist. He was born on 18 September 1946 in Niamey, Niger, and died on 11 May 1973 in Gorée, Senegal.

He studied philosophy at the École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud in France and appeared in two films by Jean-Luc Godard: as Mon Frère Africain (uncredited) in *Weekend* (1967) and as Omar in *La Chinoise* (1967). He was also involved in the May 1968 protests in France before returning to Senegal, where he became an opponent of President Léopold Sédar Senghor.
