## Biography

Óscar Dancigers (1902–1976) was a Russian-born Mexican film producer. Born in Moscow, he worked in Germany in the 1930s and then in France for Ciné-Alliance before fleeing Nazi persecution in 1940 and settling in Mexico, where he became a prominent producer during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.

He produced many of Luis Buñuel's early Mexican films, including *The Young and the Damned* (1950), *Él* (1953), *Robinson Crusoe* (1954), *Death in the Garden* (1956) and *Viva Maria!* (1965). Other credits include *The Pearl* (1947) and *The Great Madcap* (1949). He was also the first producer on Orson Welles's unfinished *Don Quixote* project.

Dancigers received Ariel awards for best film for *The Pearl* (1947), *The Young and the Damned* (1950) and *Robinson Crusoe* (1955). His brother Georges Dancigers was also a film producer.
