## Biography

Oscar Saul (1912–1994) was an American screenwriter. He adapted Tennessee Williams' play for the 1951 film *A Streetcar Named Desire*.

Saul began his career in theatre, co-writing *The Revolt of the Beavers* (1937) and the Broadway play *Medicine Show* (1940). He moved into screenwriting in the mid-1940s, with credits including the story for *Road House* (1948), *The Joker Is Wild* (1957), *Major Dundee* (1965) and *The Silencers* (1966). He also wrote the screenplay for the 1984 television adaptation of *A Streetcar Named Desire*.

Saul published the novel *The Dark Side of Love* in 1974 and received the Writers Guild of America's Morgan Cox Award in 1990 for his teaching work.
