## Biography

Oswald Morris, also known as Ossie Morris, was a British cinematographer whose career spanned six decades. He began in the film industry in 1932 as a clapper boy at Wembley Studios and later served as an RAF bomber pilot during the Second World War. After the war he worked as a camera operator before his first credit as director of photography on *The Golden Salamander* (1950).

Morris collaborated extensively with director John Huston on eight films, beginning with *Moulin Rouge* (1952). He was director of photography on *Sleuth* (1972) and many other notable productions including *Lolita* (1962), *Oliver!* (1968), *Fiddler on the Roof* (1971), *The Man Who Would Be King* (1975) and *The Dark Crystal* (1982). He won an Academy Award for *Fiddler on the Roof* and received BAFTA awards for several films. His brother Reginald H. Morris was also a cinematographer.
